College Connection: Week of May 6

Dear Mount Vernon Parents,

This week we celebrated our seniors with yard signs, college t-shirts, and senior portraits as the May 1 National Decision Deadline marked the end of the college admission cycle for the Class of 2018. We couldn’t be more proud of them. From Utah to New Jersey to Indiana, our Mustangs are traveling all around the country for college! In fact, 75% of the Class of 2018 are heading out of state for school, which is largely made possible by the over $4 million dollars they earned in merit scholarships.

Thinking ahead to the fall—we are excited to announce that we are partnering with Alexander Academy again to offer SAT and ACT test prep classes on our campus to your students. They have proven results working with our students, and taking one of their classes is a great way to get ahead in the testing game. These classes are great for members of the Class of 2019. Our expectation is that all students have taken the ACT or SAT at least once before the end of their junior year. Classes are held on Sunday and begin in September. Click here to register!

If you are requesting accommodations, please be sure to register at least a month in advance and reach out to Samantha Flowers at

Registration deadline for the the June 2 SAT is May 3, 2018

Registration deadline for the June 6 ACT is May 4, 2018
Registration deadline for the July 14 ACT is June 15, 2018

The Colleges That Change Lives College Fair will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:00pm in the Westin Peachtree Plaza.  This event begins with an enlightening 30-minute presentation on today’s college search process, followed immediately by a college fair that lasts for approximately 1.5 hours. Students and families are able to collect information from and speak directly with admission representatives from the colleges and universities that inspired the book Colleges That Change Lives. To register for this event please click here.

Exploring College Options is a special recruitment program sponsored by the undergraduate admissions offices of five of the country’s leading universities: Duke University, Georgetown University, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Stanford University. On Wednesday, May 23, at 7:30pm, representatives from these five universities will conduct brief slide presentations about their institution and answer your questions about the sometimes-mystifying world of college admissions. To register please click here.

As the school year winds down, we would like to provide you with the following important dates.
